Training Materials

There are multiple job types and roles within the transport sector that will benefit greatly from building awareness and understanding of the modalities and opportunities of illegal wildlife trafficking, and the development of capacity, knowledge and incentives to take action.  These range from the operators booking shipments with clients, to the cargo handlers, cabin crew and even policy staff.  To date there has been some limited transport sector initiatives to build the ability of the private sector staff to respond to wildlife trafficking situations.  These include cross-sectoral airport trainings on wildlife trafficking in particular places (e.g. Dar es Salaam seaport and airport, Bangkok Airport, Singapore Airport) and individual company trainings or suite of trainings (e.g. Etihad, DHL, Vietnam Airlines, Kenya Airways).  Building on this experience and information, ROUTES will develop and adapt a range of training tools that will provide both generic and specific information for roles across the transport sector.

Awareness modules have been developed and tested in trainings held in South Africa and Vietnam in September 2016.The awareness modules are summarized below and can be adapted with partner feedback.  Descriptions, images and statistics of actual cases at target airport(s) will be used where possible to drive home the urgency and relevant of the training.

Role specific training will be developed in 2016-2017, to engage in providing input to and testing the material, please contact ROUTES.
